Re: Mixer - Double Balanced Diode Ring

i removed the transformers and checked the diodes. they seemed to be fine. i then rewound the transformers with new enamel wire and reattached them carefully. i still have the same results.

with 3.5MHz on the LO and approximately 8.5MHz on the RF ports i see this on the IF port: http://i.imgur.com/ioBpv.jpg

Re: Mixer - Double Balanced Diode Ring

Sol...I sent you a built diode ring mixer in your last order.
Use it to compare your built kit...then send it back smile

Re: Mixer - Double Balanced Diode Ring

hi diz. i feel really dumb. within a minute of looking at your diode ring mixer i realized what was wrong with mine. i forgot to install a jumper in place of R5. i have no idea how i missed that! i tested it out and it is working perfectly now. i'll send your mixer back when i get a chance to stop at the post office in the next day or two.

thanks for everything.

Re: Mixer - Double Balanced Diode Ring

No hurry on returning the PCB.

A picture is worth a thousand missing jumpers smile
On second thought...I do not see why R5/jumper would make much difference in the output/balance ?

Re: Mixer - Double Balanced Diode Ring

Hi, Diz.  How does the the DBDR compare to the SBL-1 with respect to IP3?  I'm thinking about replacing the SA612 in my N3ZI rx with ur DBDR to eliminate or at least reduce the overload problem.  I have ur RF Amplifier Kit to add somewhere if the lost gain in the 612 is needed.

Hi Bill,
I do not have any numbers on my diode ring mixer; don't have the equipment...but
one has the option to optimise the toroids for the frequency of use.
I would put money on it that my mixer is as good or better than a typical SBL-1
I would add an RF amp to the ouput of the mixer to compensate,
that way you retain the +14 dB gain
